Oak Bay Lodge & Mt Tolmie Hospital

Many residents of Oak Bay and the Greater Victoria area have expressed concerns recently about the future of Oak Bay Lodge and Mount Tolmie Hospital.

The Vancouver Island Health Authority has determined that Oak Bay Lodge and Mt. Tolmie Hospital are in need of replacement, and has begun to seek proposals for a plan to replace these facilities with a new state-of-the-art facility incorporating 325 to 400 complex care beds and 100 assisted living beds.

Currently, Mt. Tolmie Hospital provides 73 beds and Oak Bay Lodge provides 247 beds.

There will be no loss of residential care capacity in the Greater Victoria area, and replacement beds will continue to be publicly funded.

I have recently met with VIHA CEO Howard Waldner and will continue to work with VIHA and the municipalities involved to ensure that any replacement facility represents a significant improvement in the already high level of care offered to residents. I encourage you to contact my office or VIHA, with your feedback.
