| June 28, 2010 VICTORIA – Over 18 kilometres of Highway 14, between Colwood and Pt. Renfrew, will be sporting new pavement to ensure smoother, safer travels for drivers. “It’s great to see local contractors working on this project,” says Oak Bay-Gordon Head MLA Ida Chong. “Not only will the roads be safer for residents and tourists, but jobs are being created within our communities.” Rocky Point Metal Craft Ltd of Victoria has been awarded a $2.7-million contract to resurface 7.8 kilometres of highway between Colwood and Sooke, while O.K. Industries Ltd of Saanichton has been awarded a $3.1-million contract to pave 10.8 kilometres from Port Renfrew to Minute Creek. Cost of this resurfacing work, now underway, will be shared equally between the provincial and federal governments and both ends of the project should be completed by mid-September. The federal contribution to this project comes from the $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, which provides funding to provincial, territorial and municipal construction-ready infrastructure projects. Since March 2009, almost 400 projects have received a total federal investment of over $500 million under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund across British Columbia. Since October 2008, over $5.3 billion has been committed for accelerated capital projects across British Columbia, which is estimated to generate more than 34,000 construction jobs over the life of the projects. -30- | |
